SentryOne Delivers Cloud Database Management Solutions

Company’s management offering focuses on data monitoring, automation, testing

SentryOne wants to make it easier for enterprises and channel partners to manage their data in an increasingly data-centric world.

The Lowdown:  The Charlotte, N.C.-based company this week rolled out SentryOne Cloud, a cloud-based data management offering that aims to give users easier and faster access to their data in cloud and hybrid cloud environments.

The Details:  The SentryOne Cloud includes:

> SentryOne Monitor: A tool for monitoring SQL Server in the cloud to streamline data performance management.
> SentryOne Document: The service includes automated database documentation, an enterprise data dictionary, and data lineage analysis.
> SentryOne Test: A framework for testing and validating data-centric applications, ensuring that business decisions are based on the most accurate information.

Background:  SentryOne’s cloud offering comes as more enterprises shift their database management from on-premises data centers to the cloud. Gartner analysts are forecasting that by 2022, 75% of all databases will either be deployed or migrated to the cloud, with only 5% being repatriated to on-premises environments. The key drivers are the growing use of databases for analytics and the increasing adoption of the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model. In 2018, database management system revenue worldwide grew 18% – to $46 billion – with cloud-based revenue accounting for 68% of that growth.

The Buzz:  “We know from listening to our customers that they are under increasing pressure to be more data-driven,” said Greg Gonzalez, SentryOne founder and CTO. “Our new SentryOne Cloud products give data professionals an intuitive way to manage and deliver database performance with responsive dashboards and an easy-to-use interface that they can access from anywhere.”

“Our mission is to improve the quality of life for Microsoft data professionals and their customers,” said Douglas McDowell, SentryOne chief strategy officer. “With the availability of SentryOne Cloud, we are doubling down on our commitment to cloud database workloads. But we won’t stop with that, we’ll continue innovating with our cloud solutions to give data professionals even greater control and ease of use.”

“Instead of having to set up client access for each team member, you can give them a web link and they can go in and immediately see what’s happening with database performance,” Joseph Fleming, a senior consultant with SentryOne partner StraigthPath SQL, said about SentryOne Monitor.
